SOFT ENOUGH? · HONEST GUIDE

If a soft brace is not enough, we will say so.

Some feet need a hard hospital brace. Some do not. This page helps you tell the difference before you buy.

3 minute read

A short guide. If this brace is the wrong one, we will say so.

OPEN

A soft brace is not a magic foot.

It holds the front of the foot up so the toes do not catch. That is all.

If your ankle is floppy, or locked stiff, this will not be enough. A hard brace from a clinic is the honest answer. Keep that. Do not buy this to prove a point.

If your foot still lifts a little — just not every time, and not enough — keep reading.

Three questions
Answer these as they are today, not on a good morning.
01
Can you still push off the ground with that foot?
A small push counts. No push at all means this brace is too soft.
02
Does the front of the foot lift a little, even if it drops when you are tired?
A little lift is enough to try this. No lift at all is not.
03
Do you want to keep the shoes you already own?
This brace goes on first. Then your own shoe goes on over it. If a doctor already gave you a hard plastic brace that must stay, stay with that.

If you said yes to the first two, a soft brace can be enough. If you said no to either, stop here. Talk to your clinician.

What this brace actually is
Oakhold Steady Brace is a soft sleeve.
Slide it on over your sock.
Press the strap shut.

Turn the dial until your toes sit level.

Put your own shoe on over it.

The dial shortens a cable. The cable holds the toes up so they clear the ground. When you push off, the sleeve still bends. It does not lock the ankle like a hard brace.

One size. Shoe size 6 to 13. Left foot or right foot. Two feet means two braces.
It is not a hard hospital brace. It is not the cheap strap that hooks onto laces. It is not a cure.

See if a soft brace is enough

Who this is for — and who it is not

WHO THIS IS FOR
People whose foot still works a bit, just not enough to trust
every step.
Work. School gate. Stairs. The shoes you already paid for.
Mild to moderate. That means the foot is late, not gone.
WHO THIS IS NOT FOR
The ankle does not lift at all.
The ankle is locked stiff.
A clinician already said you need a hard brace.

Open sores, bad circulation, or numb skin you cannot check every day.

If that is you, do not order this to “see.” You already have the answer. Go to the person who fits hard braces.

What it will not do

It will not grow the nerve back. It will not end foot drop. It will not replace rehab. It will not hide a hard brace you still need.
It will hold the toes up in the shoes you already own, on the days the foot does not do that job alone.
The small yes
Wear it 30 days in the shoes you actually leave the house in.
If the toes still catch, and this was not enough, send it back. Email shop@oakholdhealth.com. No form. A person answers. Worn is fine.
Prices are on the product page. Most people start with two — wear one, wash one.

If a soft brace is enough, you can stop waiting. If it is not, you should not buy one to be polite.x

Soft pad against thin skin. No raw patch after a week. One side of the body came back. The foot did not. Work boots. The old high-step walk is fading. Best for a mild or medium drop, not a severe one.

Linda Reyes
Columbus, USA

The front of the foot went limp after a long hospital stay. Size chart used first. The soft pad inside can go in the wash. Pair: soft work loafers. Place: the church car park. The toe of the shoe is not worn through after three weeks. Best for a mild or medium drop, not a severe one.

Ryder E.

The hard hospital brace dug in and would not fit normal shoes. A family nerve condition. Both feet are weak, one worse. New strap inside work boots. The foot can still push off. It is not a hard plastic lock. The toe of the shoe is not worn through after three weeks. Not a cure.

Thea
Swansea, UK

School pick-up became a trip risk on the kerb. The hard hospital brace dug in and would not fit normal shoes. The strap sits inside normal shoes. The toe of the shoe is not worn through after three weeks. Honest limit: The first two days the strap feels odd. Then it fades.

Christopher

Shoes first: hall trainers by the door. MS days. Some days the foot lifts. Some days it does not. The foot can still push off. It is not a hard plastic lock. Stairs are slower, but safer. On the train platform. Not a cure.

Jack
Prescott, USA

Night pair sits in the soft work loafers by the bed. Standing at work turns into a drag by mid-afternoon. Wet floors feel less scary. Best for a mild or medium drop, not a severe one.
